Principal component analysis applied to biomonitoring studies: a case study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to test differences among metal concentrations in organisms collected in five coastal sites in a reference ecosystem that is Linosa island (Sicily, Italy). Thus, Monodonta turbinata B. and Patella caerulea L. were tested as biomonitors of trace metal contamination in marine coastal areas. The aim of this survey was to evaluate the concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn present in soft tissues of the selected species. PCA results confirmed that most significant elements in determining the pollutant distribution were Cu > Cr > Cd Zn > Pb. The pollutant distribution is related more significantly to species than to sites. Results confirmed the suitability of these species for biomonitoring purposes and PCA as a reliable tool for biomonitoring studies.

The Dehaj area, located in the southern part of the Urumieh-Dokhtar magmatic belt, is a well-endowed terrain hosting a number of world-class porphyry copper deposits. These deposits are all hosted in an acidic to intermediate volcano-plutonic sequence greatly affected by various types of the hydrothermal alterations, whether argillic, phyllic or propylitic. Although there are a handful of hithe...

Production planning and control (PPC) systems have to deal with rising complexity and dynamics. The complexity of planning tasks is due to some existing multiple variables and dynamic factors derived from uncertainties surrounding the PPC. Although literatures on exact scheduling algorithms, simulation approaches, and heuristic methods are extensive in production planning, they seem to be ineff...
